MagnaStor is an easy-to-use, transparent WORM (Write Once Read Many) file system that when properly configured and managed with magnetic disk hardware, provides an archival/compliance storage solution that meets statutory requirements for archival WORM storage. Based on a patent pending, magnet WORM file system, MagnaStor is a simple and cost effective product that works with any magnetic disk device or subsystem.

How does MagnaStor Work?
Unlike most magnetic disk based archive/compliance products, MagnaStor does not use a policy based wrapper or a modified erasable file system. MagnaStor uses a transparent hierarchical magnetic WORM file system, MWFS. The MWFS file system cannot delete or change the contents of files or directories. MWFS has a built-in audit mechanism that cannot be altered, deleted or tampered with. Further protection of files and directories is achieved through a combination of digital fingerprinting and AES based encryption. Any attempt to tamper with, corrupt, or destroy, the contents of the MWFS file system will be detected in real-time on accessing files, or detected during one of MagnaStor’s continuous integrity file system scans.

Easy Administration
MagnaStor provides a powerful and easy-to-use graphical user interface, providing simple interaction between the user and configuration controls for any attached MagnaStor magnetic WORM file systems. The GUI provides detailed real-time information on file retention, expiry and history. For those users and administrators that prefer command line interfaces, MagnaStor offers a comprehensive set of command line utility programs. For custom application integration, a MagnaStor SDK is available to qualified third parties.

Archive Plus Portability
The MagnaStor file system, MWFS, is platform and operating system independent; thus enabling data interchange between heterogeneous operating system environments. MagnaStor volumes are self-describing and self-contained; no external dependencies. Optionally, MagnaStor volumes can be read via UDF (Universal Disk Filesystem); ensuring future accessablity to archived data.
